JMB man, jailed in India, gets life term in Bangladesh

Moulvibazar: A member of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), who was jailed in India in a violence case, has received life term imprisonment at Moulvibazar in Bangladesh in arms and explosive case.

Moulvibazar district and session judge court’s additional district Judge Mohammad Rafiqul Islam on Sunday afternoon handed over life term imprisonment to the accused, Latfur Rahman Harun, in his presence, said public prosecutor SM Azadur Rahman.

According to the case statement, police detained JMB member Lutfur Rahmna Harun in North Budhpasha area under Kormadha union of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar on 15 June, 2016.

The law enforcers also recovered a locally-made gun, and two cartridges from his procession. Later, a case was filed with Kulaura police against Lutfur under Arms and Explosive Substances Act.

Lutfur Rahman Harun studied at a seminary in India’s Deoband in 2005-2007, when Delhi police arrested him in Delhi railway station in a violence case. Later, he was jailed at Tihar jail.

However, Lutfur was released from the jail and returned Bangladesh.

He is also accused in cases field over the bombing at Shah Dingi’s shrine in Kulaura’s Pritthimpasha in 2004, series bomb attacks on 17 August 2015 and others. The cases are under trail now.
