Nagorik Samaj seeks national dialogue

Dhaka: Nagorik Samaj, a platform of a group of leading eminent citizens of the country, sent a letter to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday as part of its initiative for holding a ‘national dialogue’ to put an end to the political crisis in the country.
Advocate Prince Chancal Mahmud, on behalf of the Nagorik Samaj, carried the letter signed by former chief election commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda, to the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office around 6:30pm.
BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas received the letter.
A resolution of a views-exchange meeting of people from different professions held at Engineers’ Institute on Saturday was attached with the letter as that meeting had a consensus about a national dialogue to resolve the current political crisis.
In the letter, Nagorik Samaj focused on the necessity of a national dialogue in context of the current political deadlock.
ATM Shamsul Huda, on behalf of the platform, sought a good initiative by the BNP chairperson to this end.
Meanwhile, Nagorik Samaj has been working for a few days to form a committee with non-partisan noted citizens for arranging national talks, pledging to work towards a permanent fix for the unhealthy cycle of political violence centring elections.
