Bullets from Rony’s pistol killed 2: police

Dhaka: Detectives have got enough evidence that the bullets that two killed persons were from the gun of ruling Awami League lawmaker’s son.
Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said that ample evidences support that rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub were killed being hit by bullets fired from the pistol of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan.
“The case has already been detected as we have enough evidence,” said Monirul Islam while briefing reporters at DMP Media centre on Wednesday.
“During interrogation, Rony revealed that the two people were killed being hit by bullets fired from his pistol but repeatedly denied while making statement before a magistrate,” Monir said.
Earlier, Rony’s two friends and his car driver confessed before the magistrates stating that Rony sprayed bullets from his pistol indiscriminately, he said.
Rony has been put on remand for the fourth times and he is being interrogated under remand for the 14th consecutive day today (Wednesday), he added.
If Rony wants to make his confessional statement before a magistrate he will be taken to Dhaka CMM Court, said the Joint Commissioner (DB).
On April 13, Rony, said to be a drug addict, allegedly opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people—rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub—injured with bullets.
Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 15 while Yakub died at the hospital on April 23.
On April 15, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against unidentified people in this connection.
On June 1, law enforces arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing.
Ballistic report of CID on 19 June showed that the bullets found in the victims’ bodies and that of Rony’s pistol were the same.
