Chittagong: Two diesel-electric multiple unit (DEMU) trains pressed into service on Chittagong-Hathazari route on Saturday to provide better service to commuters.

Railways minister M Mazibul Hoque formally inaugurated the DEMU train service at Chittagong Railway Station on Saturday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Mazibul Hoque said the Bangladesh Railway has taken various initiatives to modernise the country’s railway sector and improve its service.

‘We’ve already brought some new coaches and locomotives to provide better service to passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr,’ he added.

The minister said more coaches will be added to Bangladesh Railway during Eid-ul-Fitr than that time of last year.

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways Ministry ABM Fazle Kabir Chowdhury, local lawmaker Mainuddin Khan Badol and BR director general Amjad Hossain were, among others, present on the occasion.
