Dhaka: A freedom fighter reportedly committed suicide in a residential hotel at Topkhana Road in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The freedom fighter is Aiyub Khan, 62, former commander of Satkania upazila Muktojoddha Sangshad of Chittagong.

Sources at the DMCH said Aiyub took poison inside his hotel room. It was discovered as the hotel manager informed Shahbagh police station that he was not responding to staff calling on his door.

A team of Shahbagh police station led by SI Abdullah Al Mamun went to ‘Hotel Karnapholi’ atTopkhana Road at about 10:00am and after breaking the door down, found him alive still.

He was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but succumbed at about 10:55am to the poinson’s effects, said SI Mamun.

SI Mamun said a suicide note had been recovered from deceased’s possession. He did not elaborate on its contents.
