Body formed to check labour unrest: Kamal
Dhaka: Employers will be asked to pay wages and festival bonuses before Eid and send workers to holidays from 14 July, said the State Minister for Home Affairs, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, on Wednesday.
Following a meeting at the ministry on law and orders situation during Eid, the state minister said law enforcers had taken necessary measures to ensure safety of home-goers.
A committee headed by labour ministry additional secretary was formed to ensure and supervise wage payments and granting leaves.
Delegates from BGMEA, BKMEA and merchant bodies will represent their organisations in the committee, added the minister.
Each year, labour unrest over wage and festival bonuses leads to poor law and order situation, but this will not be allowed this time, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal added.
The state minister said law enforcers will patrol roads. Rapid Action Battalion will patrol on helicopters. No dilapidated vehicles will be allowed to ply roads. Shipping ministry will be asked to ban the commission of the ferries that have no fitness.
Home secretary, industries secretaries, Inspector General of Police, BGB director general, among others, were also present.
