Journalist dies of stab wounds

Chuadanga: Journalist Abu Sayem, who was stabbed by an unnamed assailant on Tuesday night, died in a Dhaka hospital at about 4:00pm on Wednesday.
He was the national daily Samakal correspondent of Jibannagar upazila in the district.
Jibannagar police officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir said the killer stabbed Abu Sayem when he was taking sleep in his house at the village of Piaratala under Uthali union of the upazila at about 11:00pm on Tuesday. The killer went to the house impersonating a Baul cleric as the family was follower of Baul ideology.
Abul Khayer Bacchu Mollah, in his sixties, father of Abu Sayem, rushed to room to safe his son, but was stabbed by the killer, the OC added. The killer ran away from the house.
The victims were first taken to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Jessore Sadar Hospital. Sayem was taken to Dhaka chest hospital where he died on Wednesday. Abul Khayer is still undergoing treatment.
Police on Wednesday arrested Rajib Ahmed, in his thirties, on suspicion of his involvement in the killing. Police claimed that they had recovered a bloodstained knife and a red piece of cloth. He is under questioning, confirmed the police.
