Canada to continue project assistance: Envoy

Dhaka: The newly appointed Canadian high commissioner to Bangladesh, Benoit-Pierre Laramee, on Tuesday said Canada will continue to provide project assistance to women empowerment, child health and primary education sectors in Bangladesh.
The envoy said this when he paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter’s office in Dhaka, a foreign ministry press release said.
During the meeting, they discussed various bilateral and development issues when they expressed their commitment to work together to prevent child marriage in Bangladesh.
Terming the Bangladesh’s media as a vibrant one, the envoy lauded Bangladesh for ensuring freedom of expression.
He said Bangladesh and Canada have a good economic and trade relations that have been benefiting the two countries.
The foreign minister mentioned that Canada had given recognition to Bangladesh as an independent state immediately after the country’s great war of Liberation in 1971.
The minister assured the new Canadian envoy to provide all out cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.all out cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.
