Dhaka: The holy Shab-e-Qadr or Lailatul Qadr, superior to thousand nights as per the holy Quran, is being observed tonight through offering special prayers for wellbeing here and hereafter.

On this glorified night, the Muslims believes that the first verses of the holy book Quran was revealed upon the Greatest Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) to show the mankind the path of worldly and eternal emancipation.

It is considered as the night of fortune and forgiveness as the angels and the spirit descend here on the night by the permission of Almighty Allah with all decrees.

President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition Begum Rowshan Ershad and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia today greeted the countrymen and the Muslims across the world on the occasion of the holy Lailatul Qadr. In separate messages on the eve of the holy night, they prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country and the Muslim Ummah.

The President, in his message, greeted the Muslims in Bangladesh and throughout the world on the holy occasion.

He said the holy Shab-e-Qadr is superior to thousand nights and it’s very sacred and full of virtues for mankind.

Allah revealed the holy Quran on this night, he added.

‘On this night, Almighty Allah opens up His store of blessings and forgiveness. Therefore, the significance of this glorified night is immense,’ the President said.

Abdul Hamid prayed to Almighty Allah to fulfill everybody’s life with His unlimited blessings on this night.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina termed the Lailatul Qadr as a glorified night of Ramadan. ‘I pray to Almighty Allah for continued progress, peace and welfare of our beloved motherland and the Muslim Ummah on this holy night,’ she added.

Muslim devotees will offer special prayers overnight at mosques and homes, seeking divine blessings and mercy of Almighty Allah for themselves as well as the country and the Muslim Ummah. Special prayers and sermons will be arranged at Baitul Muqarram National Mosque and other mosques across the country on that night.

Muslims devotees will offer special munajats seeking divine blessings for long life, peace, progress, good health and happiness for them, their families, relatives and friends and eternal peace for their departed parents and generations.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private TV channels will air special programmes highlighting the significance of the holy night.
