2 murder case accused killed in ‘gunfight’

Dhaka: Two accused in transport worker Limon Miah murder case were killed in a reported shootout with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhap area of Rangpur  in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased are Manik and Sumon.

RAB 13 headquarters officials said on a team of RAB challenged a gang of alleged criminals, including Manik and Sumon, while they were gossiping inside a restaurant in the area at about 2:30am.

Sensing the presence of RAB, the gang members opened fire to the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

During the gunfight, Manik and Sumon received severe bullet injuries while their other associates managed to flee.

They were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead at about 3:30am.

Two RAB members were also injured in the gunfight.

RAB also recovered two foreign-made revolvers, two knives and three rounds of bullet from the scene.

Transport worker Limon Miah, who was 26 years old, resident of Bhogibalapara, was stabbed to death in an attack by miscreants at Dhap in the city on 12 July.
