Gazipur mayor Mannan held

Police on Wednesday held Gazipur city mayor MA Mannan from his DOHS residence in the capital on charges of firebomb attack on a bus, confirmed police officials.
MA Mannan, who is also an adviser to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia, is being taken to Gazipur, police superintendent of the district Harun-or-Rashid told NTV Online.
Mannan was reported to be arrested in a case filed with Joydebpur police on 5 February following a firebomb attack on a bus of Balaka Paribahan.
The said attack took place on 4 February at Gazipur city’s Sardigate on Dhaka-Joydebpur road. Five people, including a child, received burn injuries in the attack while another three were hurt while hurrying to get off the bus.
Joydebpur police assistant sub-inspector Rezaul Karim filed the case accusing mayor MA Mannan, 39 other BNP-Jamaat leaders, and 20 unnamed persons of the attack.
Mannan’s brother A Kadir, his son Manjurul Alam Roni, nephew Alamgir Hossian, Gazipur district BNP general secretary Kazi Sayedul Alam Babul, and city councillor Hannan Mia among others stood accused in the case.
