Dhaka: Members of Airport Armed Police (AAP) arrested a man and his son along with six gold bars, weighing 600 grams, at Shahajalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday.

The arrestees were identified as Billal Hossain, who is in his early seventies, and his 26-year-old son Shah Alam.

Tipped off, the AAP members challenged the duo and after searching their bodies and recovered six gold bars and Tk 50,000 cash from their possessions while waiting at the Canopy-2 of the airport around 8:30 am, said ASP Tanjina Akhter.

During primary interrogation, they confessed to receiving the gold consignment from a passenger came from Saudi Arabia in the morning, the ASP said.

She also suspected that the arrestees might have been waiting there to receive more gold bars from another passenger.

They were later handed over to the Airport police.
