CNG-run auto-rickshaw banned on highways
Dhaka: Ministry of road transport and bridges have imposed a ban on the movement of CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Highways from Wednesday.
The road, transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader during a press briefing at the secretariat conference room on Wednesday morning said the ban will be effective from today (Wednesday) and ordered the officials concerned to take initiative for imposing the ban.
The monitoring team, formed to ensure safe and hassle-free journey for the holidaymakers, sat for a review meeting at about 11:00am.
Minister Obaidul Quader briefed the journalists after the meeting. The senior officials of the ministry were also present in the briefing.
Obaidul Quader said government is planning to extend the Highways into four lanes. As the materialisation of the plan, the work for spreading 70 kilometres Highway from Gazipur’s Joydevpur to Tangail’s Alenge Highway into four lanes will be started from September and then the construction will carry out from Alenga to Siraganj’s Hatikumral road via Bangabandhu Bridge.
He also said a 22-kilometre elevated express way will be built from Airport to Bipile area.
