Derailment halts Sirajganj-Dhaka rail link

Sirajganj: Rail communications of Sirajganj with Ishwardi and Dhaka remained suspended since Friday morning as two compartments of a train derailed at Mahmudpur near Sirajganj Bazar.
Ahmed Hossain Masum, additional chief engineer of Bangladesh Railway, said two compartments of Dhaka-bound Sirajganj Express train from Ishwardi veered off the tracks at about 11:00am, halting train movements of Sirajganj with Dhaka and Ishwardi.
The incident might have taken place for damage of rail slippers due to incessant rain for the last several days, railway authorities said.
Earlier, a compartment of a Dhaka-bound train derailed in the same area on Wednesday night. Besides, a compartment of Sirajganj Express train veered off the track in the same area on Tuesday.
Frequent incidents of train derailment have created panic among the commuters of the route.
