BCL central council Saturday, Sunday
Dhaka: The two-day 28th central council of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) will begin at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on Saturday after a gap of four years.
Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina will address the inaugural session as the chief guest while Prime Minister's Information and Communication Technology adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy will be present at the session as a special guest.
New president and general secretary of the student wing of Awami League will be elected on the second day of the council on Sunday.
Meanwhile, some 64 aspirants are vying for the president post and 142 candidates for the general secretary post in the council.
The nomination papers of 35 more aspirants -- 14 for president and 21 for general secretary -- have been cancelled on various reasons, including overage.
BCL president HM Badiuzzaman Sohag announced the date of the council at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University on 8 May this year.
The BCL held its last council session on 10 July 2011.
