Fakhrul goes to Singapore tonight
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to leave Dhaka for Singapore tonight (Sunday night) for better treatment.
The BNP leader is scheduled to depart Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in a Singapore Airlines flight at about 11:54pm, BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan said.
He said Fakhrul will receive treatment at National University Hospital, Singapore for various health complexities, including blockage in the nerve of his neck.
Six months after his arrest, Fakhrul walked out of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) prison cell on 14 July.
Talking to reporters after walking out of the BSMMU prison cell, Fakhrul said, ‘I’m very sick. I’ve lost over 12 kg weight over the last six months.’
He also said the blockage in the nerve of his neck (carotid arteries) and Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) problem turned very critical.
From the BSMMU, the BNP acting secretary general went straight to the United Hospital to visit his ailing mother, Fatema Amin, there. He later got admitted to the hospital.
He returned home on 16 July, two days before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
On 6 January, plainclothes police picked Fakhrul up as he came out of the National Press Club after nearly 25 hours of stay there following BNP's announcement to observe 5 January as 'Democracy Killing Day', protesting the 10th parliamentary polls held on the day in 2014.
