8 suspected JMB men held
Dhaka: Detectives arrested eight suspected members of banned Islamist militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh from Uttara in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.
Dhaka Metropolitan police joint commissioner Monirul Islam met the journalists in DMP media centre at about 11:30 on Tuesday in this connection.
Monirul said police arrested the JMB suspects while conducting a drive in Uttara at about 7:00pm on Monday.
The arrestees are Abu Talha Mohammad Fahim alias Pakhi, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Mohammad Emdadul Haque, Rafique Ahmed Royel, Mohammad Mostofa, Mohammad Shakhwat Ullah, and Mohammad Ali Ashraf Rajib.
Police also seized several Jihadi books, leaflets, CDs, 10 mobile phone sets, and a motorcycle. The CDS and phones contain videos and information on banned militant outfits, said Monirul.
The joint commissioner said the detainee in primary questioning disclosed their plans to attack on some eminent personalities of the country.
Monirul Islam said the arrestees were communicating with Islamic State (IS) and Al Qaeda.
The commissioner said Talha Mohammad Fahim is acting amir of JMB, also the son of JMB amir Mawlana Saidur Rahman. Fahim is charged in several cases with Habiganj police in Rajshahi.
