Verdict frustrates Salahuddin’s family, counsels
Dhaka: The family members and counsels of death-row convict Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury expressed dissatisfaction after the apex court upheld the death penalty of Salahuddin dismissing the appeal filed against the verdict.
A four-member appellate division bench on Wednesday morning upheld the death penalty.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader’s lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said, ‘We are frustrated to hear the verdict. We will submit review petition against the verdict.’
Khandaker Mahbub said, ‘He [Salahuddin] was an elected lawmaker. It is incredible for him to help the Pakistani troops during the war [1971 War of Independence].’
The defence lawyer also said, ‘He [Salahuddin] was a student of Panjab University then. We have already submitted documents in this connection before the court. The court freed him from only a charge but upheld eight other charges after examining the documents.’
Salahuddin’s son Hummam Quader Chowdhury said, ‘We are disappointed with the verdict. The truth will prevail someday.’
