Sheikh Selim backs ‘encounter’
Dhaka: Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim on Thursday hinted at that the people engaged in the acts of sabotage to face ‘encounters’ in a bid to rein in violence.
Backing the law enforcers’ action of ‘encounter’, Sheikh Selim said, “Those consider encounter as a crime, I want to ask them a question whether isn’t the crime against humanity if any one hurls firebombs at people in the name of politics?”
AL lawmaker Selim said this while addressing a protest rally organised by Swechhasebak League at Gulshan-2 intersection in the capital.
Branding the BNP as a militant outfit, the front ranking Awami League leader said BNP has to be tried like that of militant outfits in other countries.
He said there will be no talks with the BNP-Jamaat as they have been unleashing violence with the blood of people in hand.
Selim also said some BNP leaders remained absconding aboard without joining their movement. “But, Khaleda Zia won’t be allowed to escape,” he added.
Swechhasebak League president Molla M Abu Kawsar and its general secretary Pankaj Debnath spoke on the occasion.
