Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday reiterated her government’s steadfast stand to take legal action against the persons responsible for colossal damage to the people and killing innocent people alive in the name of politics.

‘The persons responsible for causing the damage to the people would be brought to justice must. None of them would be escaped,’ she said while distributing cheques among affected people and their relatives at her office in Dhaka.

‘We have already started taking legal action against them and it would continue as if they remain unpunished they would do same thing in future,’ she added.

Today the prime minister distributed 222 cheques of over Taka 8.37crore among the relatives of 37 burn injured people and owners of 185 damaged transport during the 92-days so-called siege and shutdown programme enforced by the BNP-Jamaat alliance.

After distribution of the cheques the Prime Minister said, ‘We are trying to extend you help though we know that the damage you have suffered is not recoverable. But we are trying to stand beside you with all cooperation.’

‘We don’t want such damage to the people in future. It’s unthinkable one can cause such damage to the people and burning people alive aimed at gratifying own interests,’ she said.

Sheikh Hasina said people of Bangladesh never had experienced such brutality in the past which BNP and Jamaat clique has unleashed during their 92-days agitation since January 5, 2015.

The Prime Minster said her politics is devoted to serve the people and for their welfare. ‘It’s not politics at all if political activities cause damage to the people. It’s merely militant and terrorist act,’ she said.

Sheikh Hasina extended thanks to the countrymen for facing the destructive activities of BNP and Jamaat with courage along with the law enforcing agencies saying, ‘your courage has rescued the country from ruining.’

She said people of the country don’t want to see the reoccurrence of such incidents, loss of lives of toiling masses. ‘Death of a member of a family is a huge damage to a family,’ she said.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh under the leadership of Bangabandhu was liberated to allow people to live with liberty and maintain safe livelihood.

‘It’s the public expectation. We will never accept the damage to the people,’ she said adding that ‘Bangabandhu has liberated the county and I want to provide people with a prosperous and peaceful future.’

Reiterated her commitment to remain beside the people of the country, Sheikh Hasina sought support of the people irrespective of party affiliation to tackle such incidents in future.

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, state minister for LGRD and Cooperative Moshiur Rahman Ranga, PM’s Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad and PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present, among others.

Earlier, the Prime Minister distributed Taka 33.77 crore in 994 cheques among the family members of the deceased, injured persons and owners of the damaged transports.
