2 held over Magura pregnant mother shooting

Dhaka: Two people have been arrested in connection with the Juba League factional clash in Magura that killed a person and left an expecting mother and her baby inside the womb wounded by bullets.
Of them, one was arrested from Sreepur upazila of Magura while the other from Kalyanpur in the capital on Sunday.
Tipped off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion-4 launched a drive in Kalyanpur area of the capital around 5:30pm and arrested a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader, Sumon Sen, from a house there, said sources at the Rab-4 battalion headquarters.
Sumon is a vice-president of Magura district BCL.
In another drive, a team of Magura district Detective Branch (DB) of police intercepted a bus of ‘Eagle Paribahan’ on Dhaka-Magura Highway in Wapda area around 7pm and arrested a man, Nazrul Islam, 30, from the vehicle, Magura police super Ehsanullah told UNB.
Nazrul, son of Hossain Ali of Doarpara in Magura sadar upazila, is the No-13 accused in the case filed in connection with the incident.
With the arrest of Sumon and Nazrul, four people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
A seven-month expecting mother, Nazma Begum, 30, her uncle-in-law Momin Bhuiyan, 65, and another man, Miraz, 30, suffered bullet injuries as they were caught in the line of fire during a clash between two groups of Jubo League over establishing supremacy at Doarpara in Magura sadar upazila on the evening of July 23.
They were taken to Sadar Hospital where Nazma gave birth to a baby through caesarean section on that night. It was found after the birth that the newborn also suffered bullet wounds while in the womb.
Momin Bhuiyan succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on July 25.
Later, the baby of Nazma was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital on July 25.
On July 28, the DMCH authorities formed an eight-member medical team for the proper treatment of the newborn.
On July 30, the newborn was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the DMCH and mother Nazma was taken to her baby at the DMCH on the same day.
A case was filed against 16 people with Magura Sadar Police Station on July 26.
