Man killed in capital ‘gunfight’
Dhaka: A man was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Baisteki in capital’s Mirpur area on Sunday night.
The deceased is Abdus Salam, in his thirties, a resident of Durgapur under Pirojpur Sadar thana in Pirojpur district.
Police officials said a special police team led by Assistant Commissioner (Pallabi Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Jakir Hossain conducted a drive at Ali Hossain Road of Baishteki in Mirpur section-13 at about 10:00 pm.
Sensing presence of the police members, a criminal gang shot gunfire at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate which triggered a gunfight, leaving Salam, a member of the criminal gang, critically injured.
Other members of the criminal group fled from the scene. Police also recovered one firearm from the spot.
Injured Salam was taken to a nearby hospital, and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead at about 1:00am, said the DMCH police.
