Man killed in railway trying to save child
Dhaka: A garment worker was crushed under the wheels of a train while trying to save a child playing on the rail tracks at Sainik Club at Banani in Dhaka on Monday.
The deceased is Md Sumon, in his forties, of Nandail in Mymensing. Sumon was residing at Karail slum of Banani.
Quoting witnesses police said Sumon saw a child, 8, playing on the rail tracks when a Dhaka bound train was approaching at about 3:30 pm.
As Sumon jumped onto the rail track to save the child the train hit him, leaving him critically injured.
Sumon was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at about 4:45 pm, said Kamalapur GRP sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam.
However, the child remained unhurt.
The body was kept at DMCH morgue for post-mortem.
