Magura baby shooting in womb: 3 sent to jail

Magura: A Magura court on Tuesday sent three accused to jail after turning down their bail petitions in a case filed in connection with the Jubo League factional clash that left a man dead and an expecting mother and her baby inside the womb wounded by bullets.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Farha Mahmud passed the order when their counsel submitted separate bail petitions for them on Tuesday.
The three accused are Sagar, Bappi, and Nazrul.
Besides, the court also fixed 9 August for hearing on the remand petition of prime accused of the case, Sumon Sen, when police produced him before the court and sought remand for him.
Earlier, police produced four accused, including Sumon Sen, before the court in connection with the case.
According to court sources, Magura DB police arrested prime accused Sumon from Dhaka while Sagar and his brother Bappi were arrested from Narayanganj district on Monday and another accused Nazrul was arrested from Wapda intersection in Magura district on 3 August.
Earlier, police arrested Sumon Hossain and Sobhan from separate places.
A seven-month expecting mother, Nazma Begum, her uncle-in-law Momin Bhuiyan, and another man, Miraz, suffered bullet injuries as they were caught in the line of fire during a clash between two groups of Jubo League at Doarpara in Magura sadar upazila on the evening of 23 July.
They were taken to Sadar Hospital where Nazma gave birth to a baby through caesarean section on that night. It was found after the birth that the newborn also suffered bullet wounds while in the womb.
Momin Bhuiyan succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on 25 July.
Later, the baby of Nazma was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital on 25 July.
On 28 July, the DMCH authorities formed an eight-member medical team for the proper treatment of the newborn.
On 30 July, the newborn was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the DMCH and mother Nazma was taken to her baby at the DMCH on the same day.
A case was filed against 16 people with Magura Sadar Police Station on 26 July.
