Modi phones Sheikh Hasina
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday phoned his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina to congratulate Bangladesh cricket team in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
In a twitter message on Friday, Modi said he had talked to Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena to convey his wishes for their team in the Cricket World Cup 2015.
In another twitter message, Modi said, ‘Cricket connects people in our region & promotes goodwill. Hope players from SAARC region play with passion & bring laurels to the region.’
Modi also twitted, ‘5 SAARC Nations are playing & are excited about the World Cup. Am sure WC will celebrate sportsman spirit & will be a treat for sports lovers.’
The first match of ICC World Cup 2015 between Co-hosts New Zealand and Sri Lanka will be played at the Hagley Oval ground on 14 February. Australia will take on England on the same day in Melbourne.
