Parliamentary body to recommend ways to curb traffic jam

Dhaka: Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a sub-committee to recommend on resolving the traffic congestion in the capital.

The sub-committee has been asked to submit a report in this regard within three months.

Headed by Abu Sayed Al Mahmud Swapon, the sub-committee includes Abul Kalam Azad and Fakhrul Imam as members, said a Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Secretariat press release in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee Tipu Munshi presided over the meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Members Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Omar Faruk Chowdhury, M Faridul Haque Khan, Abu Sayed Al Mahmud Shwapon, Fakhrul Imam and Kamrun Nahar Chowdhury attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the issues of recovery of the illegal fire arms, renovation of the dilapidated thana bhabans across the country and free the Dhaka city from traffic congestion.

The meeting recommended the Finance Ministry to expedite the process of procuring transports to strengthen the activities of the ministry.

It also recommended for amendment to the existing traffic rules and impose high-rate penalty on the persons for violating traffic rules.

Senior Secretary of the ministry, IGP, DMP Commissioner and senior officials of the parliament secretariat were present.
