Habiganj: Two workers were killed as boat carrying electric poles overturned in a canal in Ajmiriganj upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased are Milon, 18, of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district, and Sumon, 19, of the same upazila.

They used to work for Habiganj Palli Bidyut Samity’s contractor Zakir Hossain.

Police and locals said the boat turned turtle in Hirabari canal at Shibpasha in the upazila due to overloading and capsized on its way to Paharpur Bazar from Shibpasha, leaving two workers–Milon and Sumon–dead on the spot.

Ajmiriganj police officer-in-charge Taimur Bakht Chowdhury said they learnt on Friday morning that the bodies were taken away secretly.

Later, police recovered the bodies and sent those to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
