Kushtia: Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Friday said BNP will eventually turn into a militant outfit like Jamaat if it keeps on unleashing subversive activities in the same vein it is carrying out now.

He made the remark while replying to a volley of queries from local journalists during a views-exchange meeting with party leaders at his Kushtia residence.

Noting that the subversive activities BNP is carrying out in the name of politics is not part of politics, Hanif said general people are worried and upset over their activities.

Asked about the concerns voiced by the international community over the current political deadlock in the country, he said it is natural that the outside world would express their worries about the anarchy.

Hanif also wondered saying it is beyond their imagination that a political party which had been in power several times in the past can directly be involved in criminal activities.

Asked why the government has failed to curb the violence, he said if a party which has lakhs of activists and which enjoys 30 percent vote turns out to be a militant organisation, it would take time to 'uproot' them.
