Dhaka: Three people sustained burn injuries in a ‘mysterious explosion’ at Central Road area in Dhaka on Saturday.

The victims were identified as Fazlur Rahman, in his forties, his nephew Delwar

Hossain, in his twenties, and niece Panna, in her thirties.

Inspector Mozammel, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said the trio sustained burn injuries in an explosion from an unknown source on the fifth floor of a six-storey building in Central Road area at about 8:00 am.

The injured were rushed to DMCH.

Sarwar, additional deputy commissioner of a bomb disposal unit of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said a team of the unit went to the spot to unearth the origin of the explosion.

Primarily it is suspected that the explosion may have been caused following gas formation inside the closed store room, he added.

Contacted, Kalabagan Police officer-in-charge Md Iqbal said officials of Titus Gas, Fire Service and Civil Defense also visited the place soon after the incident.

DMCH sources said among the injured, Panna’s condition is critical as she received 95 percent burn injuries.
