ACC grills BNP leader Taimur

Dhaka: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday interrogated BNP leader Taimur Alam Khandaker in connection with a graft allegation.
ACC assistant director Abdus Salam questioned Taimur for hours starting from 10:00am at the ACC head office in the capital, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said.
On Thursday, the Commission sent a notice upon Taimur Alam, BNP Narayanganj unit president, to be present at the ACC head office on 12 August next, but he appeared before the ACC before the scheduled date.
According to the allegation received by the Commission, Taimur gave allotment of some 11 shops of the Blind and Deaf Society misusing his power when he was the president of the association.
Although the people who got allotments of the shops did not pay installments as per conditions, he renewed the allotments of shops without approval of the executive committee of the society.
There were also allegations that Taimur appointed staff to the Blind and Deaf Society through manipulation and plundered nearly Tk one crore from its fund.
