Rajbari: An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Gopalpur village in Pangsha upazila, Rajbari in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased is Abdur Rouf, a resident of Faziyadanga village of the upazila.

He was wanted by police in several cases filed with Kushitia, Pangsha and Kalukhali polices, including murder and robbery cases.

The Pangshu police said they arrested Rouf from the Faridpur-Rajbari Highway on Saturday night while he was taking preparation to commit robbery.

After interrogation, police along with Rouf conducted a drive at the village at about 1:00am to recover firearms.

When the police team reached the village, associates of Rouf opened fire on police, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Rouf was caught in the line of fire and injured critically while his associates managed to flee the scene.

Later he was taken to Pangsha sadar police station.

As his condition was deteriorated, he was shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he died.

Police also recovered three cartridges and one gun from the spot.
