Dhaka: A driver of a Dhaka-Sylhet route bus was reportedly beaten to death by the passengers at Sayedabad in Dhaka Monday night.

The Jatrabar police held three people for their involvement in this connection.

The deceased is Shibu Chandra Dey, a resident Boyda Nagar of Jafllong in Sylhet.

Local people said some angry passengers of a Sylhet-bound bus of Shyamoli Paribahan beat Shibu as he took time to start the bus from the Janapath Mor counter in Jatrabari on Monday night, leaving him unconscious.

Later, he was taken to the hospital by his assistant Shamim at about 11:30pm where doctors declared him dead.

DMCH police camp in-charge Mozammel Haque confirmed the incident and said Shamim was detained for interrogation in this connection.
