Elections under Hasina govt in 2019: Ashraf
Savar, Dhaka: The forthcoming elections in 2019 will be held under the Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the public administration minister, Syed Ashraful Islam, following a discussion on the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on Tuesday.
The minister was also ruled out the chance of midterm elections.
Syed Ashraf said, ‘Fifteen August is the assassination day of Bangabandhu. I am requesting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia not to observe her birthday on the date. If she wishes, she can do it on 16 or 17 August.’
Ashraf, also the general secretary of ruling Awami League, asked the party leaders and activists to stay aware against any possible terrorist activities of BNP-Jamaat activists.’
Public Service Commission member Sharif Enamul Kabir, also the former vice-chancellor of the university, presented a keynote paper on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
University vice-chancellor Farzana Islam, former lawmaker Benzir Ahmed, Savar Upazila Awami League president Hasina Daula, joint general secretary Manzurul Alam, among others, were present at the programme.
