Dhaka: The Election Commission has turned down the audit reports of 22 political parties submitted on their financial transactions in 2014 as they failed to follow the due process, reports UNB.

The Commission on Thursday sent a letter to the 22 political parties asking them to submit again their audit reports by August 31 with proper signatures and seals, said EC assistant secretary Rawshan Ara Begum who signed the letter.

“As the parties failed to follow the process specified in the law, the commission didn’t accept their reports,” she told UNB.

Out of 40 registered political parties, 25 parties submitted their audited statements on their financial transactions in the last calendar year within the deadline.

But, two major political parties—ruling Awami League and BNP—failed to place their reports to the EC within the deadline and sought further time.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod, Bangladesh Workers Party, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Khelafat Majlish, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, Jatiya Party-JP (Monju), Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Tarikat Federation, Bangladesh Kalyan Party, Samyabadi Dal-ML and Jaker Party are among the 22 parties.

The commission earlier extended the time till August 31 for nine political parties, including AL and BNP, to submit their audit reports following their appeals.

According to the Political Parties Registration Rules 2008, a party has to get its total transactions on a calendar year audited by a chartered accounting firm and submit a copy of the firm’s report to the commission by July 31 of the subsequent year.

As per the law, the registration of a political party may be cancelled if it fails to submit the audit report in time for three consecutive years.
