Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Friday put two suspected Islamist militants Sad Al Nahian and Masud Rana on eight-day police custody over blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy murder.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mollah Saiful Alam passed the order while police produced them before the court requesting a 10-day police custody.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two persons from the capital’s Mirpur and Uttara areas on Thursday.  

‘We arrested Masud Rana in front of Purabi Cinema Hall at Mirpur at about 7:00pm and Sad Al Nahian from near a park at Uttara Sector-7 at about 9:30pm on Thursday’ a DB official said.  

During the preliminary interrogation they confessed their link to Islamist militant organisation Ansarullah Bangla Team. Nahian was earlier arrested for making an attempt to kill blogger Asif Mohiuddin. 

A gang of four suspected Islamist militants hacked blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy to death inside his rented flat at East Goran in the capital on 7 August 2015.  

His wife Asha Moni filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station to this end on the same day.
