Dinajpur: Two people, including a schoolboy, were killed and nine others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Bonchaganj upazila of Dinajpur on Sunday.

The deceased are Bappi Islam, 12, of Deur village and Shyamol Chandra Roy, 35, of Jalgaon village in the upazila.

Quoting witnesses, police said a thunderbolt struck 10 people, including nine students of Deur High School, while playing on the playground of the school amid rain, leaving Bappi dead on the spot and nine others wounded.

The injured were rushed to Bonchagaon Health Complex.

In another incident, Shyamol Chandra Roy was killed in lightning strike while catching fish in a pond in the afternoon.

Bonchaganj police officer-in-charge Habibul Islam confirmed the incident.
