Blogger Rajib murder: next hearing 23 Aug

Dhaka: A Dhaka on Sunday set 23 August for next hearing blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider murder case.

Judge Syeed Ahmed of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 fixed the date completing deposition of another prosecution witnesses cleaner Iskander Ali, who was present during the collection of evidence in the murder.

Deposition of five prosecution witnesses, Rajib’s father Dr Nazimuddin, younger brother Newaz Mortaja Haider, cousin Kazi Galibul Islam and Jakir Hossain and Jahirul Islam, have earlier recorded in the case.

Earlier on May 11, Judge Ruhul Amin of Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court shifted the case to Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 in line with a decision taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs for its quick disposal.

A gang of criminals hacked Ahmed Rajib Haider, known as Thaba Baba among the bloggers, to death in the capital’s Pallabi area on February 15, 2013.

His father Dr. Nazim Uddin filed a murder case with Pallabi Police Station in this connection.

Investigation officer (IO) of the case and also inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police Nibaron Chandra Barman submitted a charge sheet before a Dhaka court accusing eight persons in the case.

The charge sheeted accused are: North South University student Faisal bin Naim alias Dipu, Maksudul Hasan Anik, Ehsanur Reza Rumman, Md Naim Shikder alias Irad, Nafir Imtiaz, Sadman Yasir Mahmud, Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani, and Redanul Azad Rana. Of them, Rana is still at large while the remaining others are now in jail.

A Dhaka court framed charges against the accused on March 18 in 2015.
