Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday urged all the Muslims, including Islamic scholars, to resist the evil politics of BNP-Jamaat as they are undermining Islam through their heinous acts of burning people to death.

She also called upon the Muslims, including pir, mashayekh and alems, to come forward to play a strong role in bringing back those to the true path who are doing politics in the name of Islam, misguided by the BNP-Jamaat.

The prime minister made the call while addressing the inaugural function of the daylong International Sufi Conference 2015 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).

Islamic scholars from home and abroad, including India, Germany, England and Russia, are participating in the conference organised by Bangladesh Tarikat Federation.

Referring to the vandalism, killing and setting fire to vehicles by BNP-Jamaat clique before the last general election, the premier said they are again out there on the streets to kill people hurling petrol bombs and burning innocent citizens to death in the name of politics.

She also said BNP-Jamaat always uses Islam for their political gains but show little respect to the religion of peace. "They’ve no respect for Islam …that’s why they enforced agitation programmes during even Biswa Ijtema and on holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi."

Sheikh Hasina said Biswa Ijtema is the second largest Muslim cogeneration as hundreds of thousands of Muslims from across the world assemble on the bank of the river Turag.

She called upon the country's Islamic scholars to come forward to create public opinion against burning people to death and reach the essence of holy religion Islam to the general public.

When the country’s people were living a peaceful life and the country's economy was marching forward recouping the losses due to their destructive acts, the Prime Minister said, the BNP-Jamaat nexus is again engaged in destructive activities and killing spree.

About 100 people have so far been killed in their violent acts, Sheikh Hasina said adding the air of the burn units of various hospitals has turned heavy with the foul smell of the burnt people.

“Besides, several hundred people have got maimed and have been languishing in hospital beds with severe pains and agonies.”

She said the BNP-Jamaat’s another target is to save the war criminals as the government is taking the trial process ahead against those who committed crimes against humanity in 1971.

The prime minister said the BNP chief’s (Khaleda Zia’s) destructive activities are also meant for protecting herself from the trial being held for misappropriating orphanage fund. “Khaleda Zia was certainly involved in the corruption, or else, she would have faced the court.”

Describing various measures taken by Awami League government for the welfare of Islam, the Prime Minister said Father of the Nation established the Islamic Foundation and Madrasah Board while her government implemented massive programmes over the last six years for expanding Islamic education and ideals.

She said, her government has taken steps to set up at least one model mosque in every upazila and will recruit one teacher on religious affairs in every school as character building is not possible without religious education.
