Garment makers to wage movement if unrest continues

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Atiqul Islam has threatened to come out to street along with workers if the political leaders do not come to a solution to put an end to the ongoing crisis.
He made the threat on Saturday in a token hunger-strike programme in front of the BGMEA building. The business leaders condemned the incident of crude bomb attack at the programme at about 12 noon.
Atiqul islam said ‘the country is moving backward. I think the political leaders should find a way to overcome this situation. We work for economic development. We don’t want that politics which makes workers unemployed, breaks down the economic development and moves the foreign investors away.’
Salam Murshedy, Tapan Chowdhury and other business leaders attended the programme. They hoped that the political parties will take initiatives to bring the current situation under control.
Meanwhile, garment traders and workers took part at a token hunger-strike programme in front of the Chittagong BGMEA building. Traders claimed that the export-import through Chittagong port is being hindered due to the ongoing blockade.
