2 held over Badda triple murder
Dhaka: Detectives arrested two men from Badda area in Dhaka on Sunday night in connection with a triple murder case in Madhya Badda.
Three people were killed and another person sustained bullet injuries as a group of miscreants opened fire on them in Madhya Badda on Thursday.
The victims were president of ward-6 unit of Awami League Shamsuzzaman Shamsu Mollah, 50, cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka (north) city unit of Swechchhasebak League Mahbubur Rahman Gama, and the manager of a local hospital, Manik, while the injured is senior vice-president of Badda unit of Juba League Abdus Salam, 45.
The arrested individuals were identified as mastermind of the killing Md Faruk Milon, and his close associate Nur Mohammad.
Milon is a leader of Badda Thana unit of Bangladesh Awami League, while Nur Mohammad is an activist of local unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of Awami League.
Sources said a team of the Detectives Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted the drive in Badda area on Sunday night and arrested the duo from the area.
Briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Monday, Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said rivalry over establishing absolute supremacy over garment scrap business was the main reason behind the triple murder at Madhya Badda.
He said following the death of Baul Sumon, an alleged top terrorist of Badda, slain Swechchhasebak League leader Gama was trying to control the garment scrap business in the area.
As a sequel to the conflict, the rival group carried out the gun attack on the followers of Baul Sumon–Shamsu, Gama, Manik and Salam–while they were gossiping in front of ‘Madhuban Bakery’ near the Water Tank at Adarsha Nagar on Thursday night, the Joint Commissioner (DB) added.
Though Faruk Milon was the mastermind of the shooting, he did not take part in the mission. Arrested Nur Mohammad took part in the killing directly, said Monirul Islam.
Gama was the prime target of the killing, and they had no plans to kill the other two persons. The other three people sustained bullet injuries as the killers sprayed bullets indiscriminately. Around eight people took part in the killing mission and among them, three were equipped with firearms, the Joint Commission (DB) said.
The investigators have already got names of several suspected killers involved in the triple murder and hope to arrest them soon, the Joint Commissioner (DB) added.
