PM, president mourn death of Suvra Mukherjee
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday expressed deep shock in separate messages at the death of Suvra Mukherjee, wife of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of Suvra Mukherjee.
In a condolence message sent to Pranab Mukherjee, the Prime Minister said she is profoundly shocked at the sad demise of Indian First Lady Suvra Mukherjee.
‘On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh and on my own behalf, I would like to extend to you and your family our heartfelt and deepest condolences,’ Sheikh Hasina said in her message.
She said a dignified lady, a loving mother, a caring wife and above all a wonderful human being, Shrimati Mukherjee was also an exponent of art and culture and a gifted painter herself.
Sheikh Hasina further said, ‘In Bangladesh, we hold her in high esteem. We are proud that she was born in Bangladesh and fondly remember her love and affection for Bangladesh. With her demise, we’ve lost a great friend and well-wisher.’
‘In this hour of grief, I pray for you and bereaved members of your family to have the courage and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May her soul rest in eternal peace,’ the PM added.
In a condolence message the Bangladesh president prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
Suvra Mukherjee died of respiratory disease on Tuesday morning.
She was born on 17 September, 1940 in Jessore (now in Bangladesh) and married Pranab Mukherjee on 13 July, 1957.
