BNP wants reinvestigation into Mujib killing
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday demanded reinvestigation into the killing of the founding president of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who along with his family, was brutally killed by a military group on 15 August 1975.
BNP also wanted the then Chief of Army Staff KM Shafiullah and National Defence Force, popularly known as Rakkhi Bahini, to stand trial for their roles during the killing.
Addressing a press briefing at the BNP central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka on Tuesday, party spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said any possible involvement of any political force into the killing should also be investigated.
He also complained that ruling Awami League was spinning a web of lies by involving former president Ziaur Rahman, also founder of BNP, with Mujib assassination.
BNP spokesman also said that Shawkat Mahmud, also an adviser to the BNP chairperson, was arrested on Tuesday due to political vengeance.
He also demanded immediate and unconditional release of BNP leaders and activists, who were caught earlier by law enforcers.
