Dhaka: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday expressed deep shock at the death of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s wife Suvra Mukherjee.

In a condolence message, the BNP chief said, ‘Like the people of India, I’m also very shocked and saddened over the demise of Suvra Mukherjee.’

She said Suvra Mukherjee, a daughter of Bangladesh’s Narail district, was well known as an artist and a good writer alongside her identity of the wife of India’s iconic politician and President Pranab Mukherjee.

‘On behalf of my party and my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolence and compassion to the family members and well wishers of Suvra Mukherjee and to the Indian people, and I wish for the eternal peace of her departed soul.’

Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee, who traced her roots to Narail in Bangladesh and still has family there, passed away at a hospital in Delhi on Tuesday morning at the age of 74.
