Sheikh Hasina to attend funeral of Suvra Mukherjee
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina goes to New Delhi on Wednesday morning to attend the funeral of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee.
A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage will leave Dhaka at 6:00am.
Arriving at the Delhi Airport at about 8:00am (local time), the Prime Minister will go to the Rastapati Bhaban (President's House) to attend the funeral.
After attending the programme, she will go to Hotel Taj Palace at about 10:15 am.
The Prime Minister is likely to have a meeting with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in which they will discuss bilateral issues, said a diplomatic source.
The meeting will be held at 11.30am at the official residence of the Indian Prime Minister, the source added.
If the meeting takes place, it will be their second meeting in three months, as Narendra Modi visited Bangladesh on 6-7 June.
The source said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi may also meet Hasina.
She will also go to the official residence of Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee at 13 Talkatora Road where the body will be kept to help people to pay their last respects.
Hasina will also go to the cremation ground at Lodhi Road.
She will leave Delhi for Dhaka at about 3:00pm (local time) by a VVIP flight of Biman and arrive here about 6:00pm.
PM's younger sister Sheikh Rehana and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will accompany the Prime Minister.
Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee, who had been suffering from respiratory illness, passed away at a hospital in Delhi on Tuesday morning at the age of 74.
