Dhaka: A reporter and a cameraman of Channel 24, a private TV channel, were assaulted by some Election Commission officials at Agargaon in capital on Wednesday afternoon.

The victims are Mustafizur Alam and Ripu Alam, reporter and cameraman of the 24-hour news channel respectively.

Morshed Hassib Hasan, another reporter of the news channel, said reporter Mustafiz along with cameraperson Ripu went to the National Identity Registration Wing of the Election Commission at about 12:00pm to gather news.

As they entered the office, some officials allegedly beat them up and broke their camera and the cellphone set of Mustafiz.

Later, they were kept locked in a room in the office.

At one stage, Ripu phoned his office over phone to inform the matter.
