Gazipur: A Gazipur court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife at Purba Bahadurpur area in the district in 2010. The court also fined him Taka 50,000.

Judge of Woman and Child Repression Control Tribunal Sayed Jahed Monsur pronounced the verdict.

The convict is Jahangir Alam, son of Mojammel Haque of the area.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that Jahangir beat his wife Ayesa Akhter Liza, 28, to death on August 15, 2010 for dowry.

The victim’s brother Mamun Khan filed a murder case after that with Joydevpur Thana against three persons.

Police after investigation submitted charge-sheet before the court against them.

Later, the judge examining the witnesses and evidences announced the judgment.

Besides, two other accused were acquitted as the charges brought against them could not be proved.
