BCL leader arrested for ‘assaulting’ schoolteachers
A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Manikganj has been arrested for assaulting schoolteachers, demolishing a school boundary walls, and breaking class room doors.
The arrestee was named as 27-year-old Shahiduzzaman Rajib, a vice president of BCL Government Debendra College unit.
He was arrested on Wednesday in two cases filed against him by the headmaster of Phulhara Anchalik High School of Ghior’s Baratia union.
It was alleged that the school authority’s erection of a boundary wall on the two sides of the school stopped Rajib and his family members’ movement through the school campus, as their house was adjacent to the school.
Later Rajib allegedly demolished part of the wall to make way for their movement and also broke the doors of two classrooms.
The school headmistress Shilpi Akhtar lodged a complaint with Ghior police following this incident, angering Rajib, who later came to the school campus and reportedly assaulted the headmistress and another assistant teacher.
Following Rajib’s assault on teachers, students, along with the headmistress, went to Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Mahabuba Irin, for lodging complaint at her office, where again the accused BCL leader showed up and threatened them.
Upon orders from UNO Mahabuba Irin, police held Rajib and showed him arrested over vandalism case, said Ghior police officer-in-charge Shawkat Alam adding that a second case of assaulting teacher was also filed against him.
