Jubo League leader killed in reported gunfight

Dhaka: A man was reportedly killed in a gunfight with Detective Branch of police in Salna area of Gazipur on early Thursday.
The deceased is Saidur Rahman, a Jubo League leader, claimed police.
Gazipur DB officer in-charge Amir Hossain said Saidur was a Jubo League leader of Badda area in Dhaka.
Amir Hossain said police detained Saidur on Thursday.
After interrogation, police along with Saidur conducted a drive at Salna area and recovered a pistol and two bullets at about 12 midnight on Friday.
Later the police team went for another drive to seize more arms. As soon as they reached near Hatem’s house in the southern part of Salna, associates of Saidur opened fire on police as they planned to snatch him, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
Saidur was caught in the line of fire and was severely injured, while his associates managed to flee the scene.
Later Saidur was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead at about 12:25am.
Two DB constables — Yeamin and Ujjal Mia — were slightly injured during the gunfight, said police, said police.

Saidur was wanted in seven murder cases filed with two police stations, said Amir Hossain.
