Suspected robber killed in reported gunfight

Comilla: A suspected robber was killed and three others were injured in what law enforcers termed a gunfight between his cohorts and Detective Branch (DB) of police at Perul on the Comilla-Laksam road in Sadar Dakkhin upazila on early Saturday.
The deceased Abdul Kader, in his mid-thirties, is a resident of Bharanikhanda village of Monoharganj upazila.
Comilla DB police sub-inspector Shah Kamal Akanda said after being tipped off a group of miscreants was taking preparation to commit robbery, a team of DB police conducted a raid in the area at about 3:30am.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire to them and the law enforcers also retaliated with firing, triggering a gunfight.
During the gunfight, four robbers, including Abdul Kader, were injured.
Police detained eight robbers.
Abdul Kader died on the way to Comilla Medical College Hospital while his two associates were admitted to the hospital.
Three policemen, including a sub-inspector and two constables, were injured in the gunfight. They were given first aid, police said.
Police recovered a shotgun, three LGs, five sharp weapons and several bullets from the spot.
Police claimed Abdul Kader was wanted in several cases filed with Monoharganj and Laksam Police Station.
