British Minister Desmond Swayne due on Sunday
Dhaka: Minister of State for International Development, UK Desmond Swayne arrives in Dhaka on Sunday on a three-day visit to see UK’s support in contributing to the growth of Bangladesh and helping people reduce their poverty.
Senior Foreign Ministry officials and British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert W Gibson will receive him at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on his arrival in the early morning, ministry sources said.
The UK Minister will visit UK-funded projects in Dhaka and outside the capital during his stay in Bangladesh.
This is going to be his first visit to Bangladesh since he was appointed Minister of State at the Department for International Development on 15 July 2014, and he will discuss development, political and labour issues with high government officials.
Swayne will also meet a diverse range of people, including ministers and senior government officials, to share views on the development agenda and discuss how UK can help Bangladesh achieve its ambition to become a middle-income country.
The UK Minister is also expected to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad and other political leaders.
Before wrapping up his visit, the UK Minister will also meet the press in Dhaka.
The Minister currently leads a number of areas within the Department for International Development (DFID), including Asia, Overseas Territories and Western Asia, including Eastern Europe, and the Middle East and North Africa Conflict.
